You're right, of course, no coverage
on Leahy's vote in are deferential media.

I was wondering about Welch's vote. I had to swallow hard when I phoned his office to thank him for voting no. But up until that morning Jane Hamsher at FDL said he was "leaning yes." I phoned his office at least 3 x prior to the vote and the person in reception didn't say how he was voting ("He's busy. He's still considering it.") I urged her to tell the representative to talk to his colleagues who had said they would vote "no," if he had any doubts. I gotta say the constituent service in his office sucks.JayVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02892272648798100594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32622692.post-63269855195779900992009-06-19T20:20:04.427-04:002009-06-19T20:20:04.427-04:00Vermont's liberal bloggers are celebrating Wel...Vermont's liberal bloggers are celebrating Welch's "no" vote and forgetting that their party has failed miserably on this one. And I haven't heard a peep of disgust toward Leahy.

Fine, Welch voted "no," but we all know that if the vote was close he would have flipped in a second to satisfy Pelosi, et al.

Besides, did Welch do anything to lobby his fellow Democrats? Any records of his phone calls or letters to his Democratic brethren on this one? Any memos to Pelosi or Obama expressing his displeasure? Hardly.

In fact, Welch didn't even put out a press release about his vote -- very strange from a man normally runs to the press every chance he gets.

Welch's deal with the leadership on this vote was obvious: If they didn't need him he could vote "no" as long as he kept his mouth shut during the debate and after the vote.Michael Colbyhttp://www.broadsides.orgnoreply@blogger.com
