More on McKinney's Burlington Appearance

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post
"An Evening with Cynthia McKinney in Burlington":

A fundraising reception for McKinney will be held at 884 S. Prospect Street in Burlington from 5:30-6:30 P.M. before the event with a required minimum donation of $25.

From the Green Party of Vermont press release I received, announcing the event and reception:

Nationwide Greens are holding fundraisers for McKinney to help retire the campaign debt accrued from her 2006 congressional run for office and are hopeful she will
seek the Green Party nomination for President in 2008.

So, the $25 (or more) requested donation will help defray those costs. Dig deep, folks!

More from the press release -

On May 25, McKinney participated in a 23-minute
interview on Radio Station WBAI. The hosts asked her
about the possibility that she may seek the Green
Party presidential nomination. She said, “With the
failure of the Democratic Congress to repeal the
Patriot Act, the Secret Evidence Act, the Military
Tribunals Act, I have to seriously question my
relationship with the Democratic Party. The idea has
not been ruled out. All the current Democrats running
for president support the principle of potential
military action against Iran; none of them is for
impeachment of the President. They can’t speak for me.
I am open to a lot of ideas in 2008.”

  1. The donation is not requested...to get through the door at the reception (private home) you have to donate a minimum of $25 or you will be turned away.

The event at 7pm is free!

  2. Am I correct in understanding that the GP is paying McKinney's past debt in HOPES she will run Green??? What insanity is this? Tell Cynthia to make up her mind and then approach the Party openly. We've had enough with back room deals in US politics!

  3. Or maybe, rather than accept donations, just sell tickets?

  4. Some people may perceive a dissonance of Greens coming together to help a candidate by wiping out her campaign debt and asking her to run as a Green in 2008. If you listened to the WBAI interview and recall that she just attended the Reading meeting, you would know that McKinney has always liked the Greens and found moral support among us. Certainly the Democrats in Georgia and elsewhere have not helped pay off her 2006 debt. So, why not the Greens? They've come to the fore when no one else has. Let's see what Anonymous - it'd be nice to have you sign, even if you do post anonymously - from yesterday's comment has to say.
