Iowa, a new tourist destination? Not really. Every four years, at the start of the presidential campaign, it's a destination for wannabe candidates. But yesterday, on the same day that the Vermont House gave civil unions "a respecful burial" and
voted for marriage equality (without a court order, I might add), the Iowa Supremee Court
upheld same-sex couples' right to marry, prompting some people to say that midwestern LBGTs now have a place to tie the knot.
Between Vermont and Iowa, it's nice to have some good news. The day will come when even needing to have this discussion will seem as odd as advocating laws against miscegenation does now. I don't know when that day will be and I'm old enough to think I might not live to see it - but it will come.
