As The Netherlands commemorated the victims of the April 30 attack on the royal family a seventh person passed away in a Dutch hospital, bringing the death toll to 8, including the 38-year old attacker.

In Apeldoorn’s Orpheus Theatre six candles stood for the six known victims of the attack during a sober memorial service, which was attended by Queen Beatrix, Prince Willem-Alexander, Princess Máxima, Princess Margriet and Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven. Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende and other members of the government were also present.

Families and friends of the victims and wounded were invited to the service, along with people who played a role after the drama that brought the festivities for Holland’s national holiday, Queen’s Day, to such a tragic and sudden halt. Police, Royal Military Police, Red Cross workers, ambulance personnel, hospital staff and the like gathered in the Theatre for the non religious service, Friday.
